Christmas movies...

There are many Christmas movies in the world. Some I love. Some I don't. The ones I love I can watch over and over and at any time of year. Once November comes around a couple of movie channels switch to Christmas movies. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Me? I love it. Himself? Not so much.  The phrase "but it's not even December!" was mentioned. A lot!! Usually when he walked back into the living room to find football (his love) was no longer on TV and a Christmas film was on instead.  Himself watches a lot of football, whilst I sit next to him sewing, a happy compromise for us both.    However now it IS December, so we watch football and I sew, then he flicks to a Christmas film, I am transfixed and he surfs the Internet.  The December comment has been replaced with "but we've seen this one", and he gives me the occasional bemused glance when I start bouncing with excitement. Yes, I am still a five year old when it comes to Christmas....

There are a couple of films that are the ultimate for me. Firstly, Irving Berlin's White Christmas. My mum has it on VHS and how I never wore it out when I was younger is beyond me. I have had it on DVD for many years now. The second is Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, with Patrick Stewart as Scrooge. I love this story: I have a very early edition book and in December 2005 I saw Patrick Stewart at the Albery Theatre, London, repeat his one-man performance of the story. I was totally spellbound the entire time. This October I was surprised to discover that I didn't have it on DVD.  That certainly didn't seem right and after searching the house mentioned to Himself that I don't seem to have it.  Saturday rolled around and there, wrapped in Himself's own style of wrapping paper, was a DVD of the film.  Did I get to watch it that day?  No.  After all, it wasn't even December...

  1. Oh bless "himself", how fab is he getting you the dvd, though a tad torturous not letting you watch it ;-)
