Sew Gertie...

I have wanted "Gertie's new book for better sewing"  since it came out in September last year and was lucky enough to be given it as a gift from a former boss (thank you again Cellie xx).  Having admired, and on occasion hugged, the book for well over 4 months now, I have *finally* chosen the first dress to make, the one to make it to the cover in fact: the brocade dress.  I have always referred to it as a wiggle dress, because of the pencil skirt effect.  However, Gertie does have a "wiggle" dress in this book, essentially the same as the brocade dress, but with longer sleeves…

The same boss moved to a smaller home a few months back and, as she no longer had the space for it, gave me her dress form, which has been standing at home waiting for me to set up properly, which I intend to do this weekend, with the help of my mum, plenty of twill tape and a few other tricks.  More on this on Monday, if it gets done!!

Once the dress form is set up, I'll start with adapting the patterns for myself.  I have some grey fabric that I have been wanting to use for a while, so will probably use that.  Not exactly a summery fabric, but this is England, and I can't remember the last time I saw any sun for more than consecutive 3 days here.
